First Salmon of 2018 From River Drowes

 In Fishing Reports

The first Irish salmon of 2018 was landed from the Point of the Meadow pool on the river Drowes shortly before 1pm. The 7.5lbs sea liced fish was taken on a Black and Gold Rapala by the fishery’s very own Bill Likely. The current water level remains high at 0.944 metres but is dropping slowly. The first fish, will as usual be prepared for a tasting event to benefit local charities, the date of which is yet to be confirmed. A further fish was lost shortly before the first fish of the season was landed.
Tomorrow sees a blue moon, the second full moon in a calendar month which is also a blood moon and a super moon, making it the first “super blue blood moon” since 1866. The resulting large tides coupled with falling water levels will hopefully improve fishing prospects over the coming week after near constant flood conditions since the start of the season.
